While it may seem like a fun idea to take your pooch along to these festivities, dogs are more sensitive\u00a0to noise than we are and don&#8217;t associate the noise and flashes of fireworks with celebrations. \u00a0Dogs can be nervous of fireworks and may even panic at the\u00a0loud bangs they produce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your pet is scared of fireworks, there are several things you can do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Keep your pet at home. \u00a0More pets go missing on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year. \u00a0This is usually caused when pets panic from the noise of fireworks and dart to get away from the noise, winding up lost, injured or worse.\u00a0 Also, make sure your pet is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovethemtoo.com\/blog\/microchip-your-pet-it-can-save-their-life\/\">microchipped<\/a>.\u00a0 A microchip is a permanent form of identification for your pet.\u00a0 It increases the chance of a missing pet being reunited with his family dramatically.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 294px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/ci4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/gn7ono0HBiW7pPIyEGxR2ctxbCvh1xIdcIok0YiaYhvL4YKX7WRoOW8C-N3mqrd9eYrXVhMfV_4UR3_5Mj4YwpAcwpStvT8UAEqzSiWZTPzODIpgWT4OmvaTew=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/www.demandforced3.com:443\/cp\/image.jsp?bid=107001657&amp;id=41527\" width=\"284\" height=\"177\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adaptil is a synthetic pheromone that mimics what a mother emits to her pups to help them feel comfort.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>2. \u00a0Make a safe, quiet space for your pet. \u00a0Put their bed and a favorite toy in a quite corner or bedroom in your house. \u00a0If their crate is a safe spot, drape a blanket over the top to protect them from any bright lights of the fireworks. \u00a0Give them a special treat or bone when they are in their safe spot to help positively reinforce their safe spot.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0Increase your dog&#8217;s sense of security by using the product\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Adaptil<\/span>. <a href=\"https:\/\/welovethemtoo.vetsfirstchoice.com\/search\/?text=adaptil\">\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Adaptil<\/span><\/a> is a pheromone that mimics the natural pheromone released by a mother dog to reassure her puppies. \u00a0This product can help reduce your pet&#8217;s stress level and help them feel more at ease. <span class=\"il\">Adaptil<\/span> comes in a collar, diffuser, or spray.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Set up an <a href=\"https:\/\/local.demandforce.com\/b\/southdesmoinesveterinarycenter\/schedule\">appointment<\/a> with your Veterinarian.\u00a0 There are additional treatment options available if needed, to help your pet feel at ease during firework season.<\/p>\n<p>We hope you all have a safe and fun holiday, and encourage you to take these 4 easy steps to help comfort your pets!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fourth of July is a fun-filled summer holiday filled with barbecues,\u00a0camping and of course, fireworks.
